About District Daily
Hi. I'm Dave Stroup and I created this site in October 2009 with one goal in mind: to write about the District of Columbia.
Living in DC is a challenge for anyone who is civic-minded or idealistic. Or even hopeful. When I came here seven years ago for college, I had no idea if I would stay upon graduation. I had no idea whether or not I would try to make the District my home.
Stay I did, and I have been following and writing about DC news and politics for some time now. If you ask about my 'qualifications,' I'll likely just shrug my shoulders. I live here, I pay attention, and I know how to ask questions. I firmly believe in the idea that to be a writer, all one must do is write. Whether or not you are a good, or great writer, depends on if anyone chooses to read.
I write about DC because I see problems. I write about DC because I read stories that break my heart. The city has made significant progress in the last decade, but there is still an incredible amount of work to be done. If you pick up the newspaper, or browse through your RSS feed, and get angry in the mornings, than you will likely enjoy this site. If you are frustrated that other news sites seem to fall short at explaining exactly what's happening, then this site is for you.
My goal is to distill the news a bit and make the bigger picture a little clearer. I'll try to ask the questions we mutter after watching the evening news. I won't fool myself into thinking one new web site, or one new blog can change the city. However, asking the hard questions and digging for answers is not a bad way to start.
